My SEAM is focused on understanding how Microsoft uses local community building initiatives to communicate the corporation’s global values. Microsoft is a multinational organizations that’s headquartered in the United States, but operates in more than 200 countries around the world.
Microsoft specializes in technology, software, gaming systems, and solutions for business. The company has embarked upon the ambitious mission to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more. Microsoft is executing that mission by partnering with myriad organizations and businesses to further research and development around technology, and using technology in education, healthcare, nonprofit, business, and other industries that benefit the world we live in.
As part of my summer engagement, I visited the Microsoft Retail Store in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as well as attended the Microsoft in Education Forum Puerto Rico 2017. I will also visit the Microsoft Retail Stores in Atlanta and Miami. When visiting the Retail Store in San Juan, PR, I was very surprised to learn that store associates are learning sign language to better communicate with deaf customers. That is a very noble thing for a company to embark upon. Not only does it help the customer, but it also demonstrates that they have a company concerned and focused on their needs. That simple gesture helps deaf people achieve more through technology, as well as feel comfortable with the continuously changing technology environment. That experience made me proud to work for Microsoft! It also demonstrates why the company is successful… Its employees and its passion for people.
